I have a friend with the same issue, except he has a generic mouse that doesn’t come with fancy software for rebinding.Within my Logitech mouse options, I bound the mouse button to the keyboard button (8 in my case). If I move the mouse cursor away from the frames and press it, it will work normally. If I hover over raid frames or my character portrait and press the mouse button, the ability will not work. The action bar button is bound in the interface settings to mouse5(this bug happens on all of my other mouse buttons like middle mouse) under the secondary bindings column.Any other spell will do this as well, but this is how I noticed the problem On my monk, I have thunder focus tea on my action bar.I use the stock UI and don’t use any addons that mess with frames. The same goes for if it’s in a macro with mouseover in it. If I hover over my own portrait, the ability will not go off until I move it away. I use a lot of mouseover macros for things, so I thought this might have been a macro API ussue, but then I found it being a constant problem with a regular ability that I don’t have in a macro.Īlso, AutoSelfCast is enabled, so if I cast a regular non-macro heal, like vivify, that is bound to the mouse button, it should default to myself. I will try to explain it as clearly as possible. After much messing around, I finally figured out how to work around this problem, but the problem is still there. ![]()

I originally had hoped to test the effects of walking after meals but found it hard to do a thoroughly scientific job of it. I found it liberating that something as simple and easy as walking could be a replacement for (or augment to) taking insulin. With a blood sugar of 170 mg/dl, I could either take two units of insulin and wait well over an hour for my blood glucose to really drop, or I could walk for a little more than 30-40 minutes. My rapid-acting insulin (Novolog) takes about 60-90 minutes to peak and three hours to completely finish working, meaning any drop in blood glucose takes a while. One unit of insulin tends to drop my blood glucose by 25 mg/dl (morning) and 35 mg/dl (afternoon and evening). Some might argue that one mg/dl per minute is not very impressive, but the key for me is reducing my insulin intake. Those interested can see the complete table of my walking endeavors at the end of this article. There were only two times where I did not see a drop in blood sugar in these instances, I suspect it was either blood glucose meter inaccuracy or a delayed blood glucose rise from meals (e.g., fiber, fat) that contributed to the increase. Walking was also surprisingly effective: my blood sugar dropped in 83% of my tests. The largest drop I saw was 46 mg/dl in 20 minutes, more than two mg/dl per minute. On average, walking dropped my blood sugar by approximately one mg/dl per minute. I timed each walk with a stopwatch, always made sure I had less than one unit of insulin-on-board, and tried to go at a normal speed. In an effort to test it objectively, I performed a dozen periods of walking, and measured my blood glucose immediately before and immediately after finishing. So when I approached the question of how much walking could really drop my blood sugars, I was skeptical. If you find this article useful, check out my upcoming book, Bright Spots & Landmines! A 15,000-person survey found that four out of five people who make New Year’s resolutions eventually break them. Unfortunately, making resolutions is easy, but sticking to them is hard. If you’re like me, you might have a health-focused New Year’s resolution posted on your wall: "lose weight," "exercise more, "be less stressed." ![]() ![]() Go easy, too, in determining how long he needs to stay there. Instead of marching him to a special chair, consider just having him sit still, right where he is. Insisting that he sit in a certain place, in a certain way, for a certain length of time may be too much for him. Such an interruption can be upsetting enough to your hard-charging, egocentric 2-year-old. With a toddler, your goal is simply to introduce the idea of an enforced break in the action. Some parents find it useful to act this out or to use a doll or teddy bear to demonstrate taking a time-out. Use simple terms: "When you get too wild or act in a way that Mommy and Daddy don't think is a good idea, I will call, 'Time-out.' That means you will sit in this chair for a little while until you can calm yourself down." Between ages 2 and 3, you'll probably notice that she's better able to understand cause and effect.īut don't spring the tactic on her in a burst of frustration – a time-out works best if it's explained ahead of time. When your child can follow simple directions and has a slightly longer attention span, she's ready for a more traditional time-out. Emphasizing positive reinforcement for good behavior and teaching your child alternate behaviors when he starts to misbehave work far better than simply punishing bad behavior, says the AAP. Be sure to give your child praise and encouragement when he behaves well. The AAP says it's also important not to view discipline only in terms of time-outs and negative consequences. It also painlessly introduces your child to the idea of a cooling-off period. Taking a time-in with you disrupts the spiral of negative behavior while avoiding the battle of wills that a more formal time-out can incite. Start by taking time-outs togetherīefore your child is ready for a solitary time-out, you can introduce the idea by taking what some parenting experts call a positive time-out together, or a "time-in." When your child gets revved up and borders on losing control, say, "Let's take a time-out to read a book until we feel better." Any quiet activity, such as listening to music, lying down, or putting together a simple puzzle, will work. Otherwise she won't understand why she's being corrected, and you may get frustrated and abandon the strategy prematurely. Until your toddler can appreciate the need to follow rules, limit the use of time-outs. For example, if he catches you doing something you normally wouldn't allow him to do – say, eating a snack on the sofa – he may say, "You're not supposed to do that, Mommy." One clue is if he reminds you of the rules when you break them, too. Watch for signs that he understands what's acceptable and what's not. So if you keep breakables within reach, don't be surprised to hear the occasional crash. And remember that toddlers are naturally curious and like to explore and touch. In that case, the best thing is to sit down with him and find out what's wrong. If your toddler is whining, crying, or sulking, he doesn't need a time-out – he's probably feeling frustrated or disappointed. Then be consistent whenever your child breaks the rules. Reserve time-outs for things like hitting or continuing to disobey. Then reward him with positive attention as soon as he calms down, rather than after sitting for a certain period of time.Īnd make sure you're giving time-outs for the right reasons. The AAP says that to make a time-out work for your 12- to 24-month-old, it's important to act immediately (while the unwanted behavior is happening) and tell him calmly in no more than 10 words why he has to sit down and be still. ![]() Instead, think of a time-out as the "quiet time" your toddler needs to calm down and get his emotions under control. ![]() Until he's a little older, your child won't have the self-control and reasoning skills to make a traditional time-out effective. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says it's okay to give children as young as 1 a time-out – but it's best only as a last resort. ![]() ![]() Quick Format vs Full FormatĪ memory allocation table is used to manage information on a Flash drive (FAT). ![]() If you plan to sell or give the disk and that there is essential information on it, I strongly advise that you safely erase all of the data on the HDD before doing so. If you suspect that the drive is having trouble, a full format is an excellent choice to create sure that there are no difficulties with the drive. If you intend to re-use the memory and that it’s in good working order, a quick format will suffice because you have still the owner. Furthermore, like with the quick format, the records are still present and the disk can be reformatted in order to regain access to the data. The fact that the full format takes longer to complete than a rapid format is due to this check. However, the items are still present, and the volumes can be recreated to have access to the data once more.Ī further step is performed during a Full Format, which scans the HDD for any faulty sectors. The absence of data on the external drive or memory card would lead anyone staring at the drive to believe it has been deleted. The disk is not scanned for faulty sectors before formatting to expedite the procedure. Format methodsĪ Quick Format is indeed a quick format. When it comes to deleting data in Windows, there are two primary choices: Quick Format and the other is Full Format. Decisions must be taken regarding the most effective method of erasing the data. In addition, the File format has security features that are not accessible with the File systems.Īt some point, it becomes necessary to delete the contents of a hard drive or even another memory device for that to be re-used, marketed, or given. FAT just allows drives with a capacity of 2 terabytes and therefore is incapable of handling files greater than 9GB NTFS enables devices with a capacity of 256 terabytes and the highest size of the file of 16 terabytes. FAT is the most commonly used file format for external drives because it is read/write suitable with all operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, & Linux. NTFS, as well as FAT, are the two file formats that are supported by Windows. Even though a full format discards all of the documents on a hard disk, that is not a protected way to remove data a protected format requires the use of third-party software. Both FAT, as well as NTFS file systems, are supported by Windows in both fast and complete versions. Compared to the short format, the full format requires substantially longer. When you perform a full format, all files on the disk are deleted, your file system is changed (or maintained), and the drive is checked for faulty sectors. ![]() Typically, a full format is preferable over a short format this is also usually utilized for its convenience. Bootloader support is available on a primary disk. However, the dynamic disk does not support backward compatibility and only works with a few Windows-based operating systems. When we fly away from vacation, depending on how weak our finger is when taking pictures, we are morally obliged to make a small selection of photographs to show to our friends, either to keep for posterity or to make an album of photos for later printing. We are about to end the month of June and it is likely that many people have already enjoyed their holidays, although many others are waiting like May water to rush to the selected destination to unload peacefully for a few days. ![]() ![]() ![]() And so, even though the transmission modes were stigmatized, queer and Black people and users of injection drugs quickly began using condoms, creating sterile syringe exchanges, and engaging in peer-to-peer education about how to avoid HIV.īut by the time the U.S. Those most affected were marginalized people who had long built solidarity among themselves. through anal sex, injection drug use and blood transfusions. HIV initially transmitted most frequently within the U.S. I think these divergent trends are affected by who was perceived to be the most at risk for HIV and COVID in the U.S. presently accounts for about 15 percent of the world’s COVID deaths and has, at times, accounted for as much as 25 percent. Despite being 5 percent of the world’s population, the U.S. has continued to have the highest number of total coronavirus infections and coronavirus deaths (and at times, the highest per capita deaths). But it stalled and is currently below number 50 among nations’ vaccination rates. also had some of the first COVID medicines and vaccines and, after a rocky start, rolled them out rapidly-at one point vaccinating four million people a day. could have learned from China and Italy, whose earlier experiences gave the U.S. long after people were infected and dying but with the novel coronavirus, the U.S. ![]() had various head starts with SARS-Co-V2 over other countries-more, by some metrics. What I find perplexing in some ways is that, similarly to its early access to antiretrovirals, the U.S. Yet the same drugs did not begin to be rolled out on the African continent until 2003, by which time HIV had created countless orphans and needlessly infected millions of people. got access to antiretroviral drugs in 1996, and its rate of AIDS deaths immediately plummeted (among people in in the U.S. In some ways, these disparities speak to how the Global South has borne the brunt of AIDS deaths. COVID has already surpassed this total in a tenth of the time.Īnd yet, that doesn’t explain why COVID has already surpassed total AIDS deaths in the U.S., but is less than a fifth of them globally. According to UNAIDS, annual global deaths from AIDS peaked at about 1.7 million in 2004-about 23 years into that pandemic. The novel coronavirus moves through social networks quickly, can take hold in (and transmit through) people in mere days, and can lead to death in weeks (rather than years). SARS-Co-V2 is a much more efficient virus than HIV, it transmits far more casually, and everything about it is faster than HIV. In terms of virology, the potential for the novel coronavirus to lead to human death much faster than HIV is to be expected. While COVID deaths are now about 110 percent of total AIDS deaths in the U.S., global COVID deaths-about five million and growing-are less than 20 percent of the more than 36 million people who have died of AIDS. ![]() And here, we see something very different. also beg a comparison of global COVID deaths to global AIDS deaths. The comparative COVID–AIDS death tolls in the U.S. ![]() society process such a scale of grief so quickly-especially when COVID has allowed far fewer forms of collective mourning? It is significant and worrying to see four decades of such grief compressed into less than two years. I have known so many people for decades who have lost and mourned loved ones to AIDS I have seen quite intimately the toll this takes on those who have survived the AIDS pandemic since 1981, and how their individual and collective grief has shaped U.S. Every person who has died in these pandemics is worthy of being known as they lived and loved in their time on this earth.Īlso, we will never truly know precisely how many people have died of AIDS or from COVID.Īnd yet, this milestone is important in its scale. It is hard to do justice to the more than 100,000 people in the U.S who died by drug overdose last year (a 30 percent increase from the previous year) and the hundreds of thousands who have died from HIV and SARS-CoV-2. These dire numbers are worth comparing and considering, with a few caveats.įirst, judging deaths in bulk numbers flattens what is actually happening. in 2022, while perhaps 15,000 people living with HIV may die next year of any cause. If current trends continue-and they don’t have to-hundreds of thousands of people could die of COVID in the U.S. Nearly 800,000 people are known to have died of COVID-19. in the four decades of the AIDS pandemic.īy World AIDS Day, this gap has grown. In late October, the United States passed a grim milestone: more people in the United States had died of COVID-19 in less than two years than the approximately 700,000 who have died in the U.S. ![]() |
